What is the ATEX directive?
ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) is the European directive governing equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Any installation with flammable gases, vapours, mists or dusts requires ATEX-certified equipment.
Directive 2014/34/EU classifies atmospheres into zones according to the likelihood of an explosive substance being present, and equipment into categories according to the level of protection.
